Our Women of Faith group headed to Hebden Bridge on the 11th of August for a day out to Hebden Bridge. The aim of this trip was to bring to the forefront mental health and wellbeing and how some women feel isolated and do not go out except with their families.
The weather was on our side and set the scene for a bright sunny day. Only one woman had been to Hebden Bridge before and for everyone else it was their first visit to the area. Many of the women who attended were from a Muslim background but interestingly all from different parts of the world, which allowed the women to learn about each other’s cultures and traditions.
Once we reached our destination we wandered into the centre of Hebden Bridge exploring the shops on the way and how they were different to the ones in the City. The locals were warm and friendly, making conversation as we strolled around the little square.
We found ourselves at a restaurant for lunch called the Aya Sophia where the staff were very accommodating, and we had an area to ourselves whilst waiting for lunch to arrive which allowed the women to introduce themselves and learn more about each other.
Over lunch we also discussed the importance of women’s health and Nabila Farooq our project co-ordinator spoke about the 3 NHS screening programmes and how we should all be attending.
The women really engaged with one another over the day and the time flew by with many saying we should have left earlier and that we should have had more time to explore the area as there was so much to see.
We hope to continue putting on various events where women can come together. If you have any suggestions on the type of events you would like to see, get in touch.
